Swalecliffe and Chestfield telephone lines are served from the Chestfield BT Exchange, which serves 2,387 residential premises and 80 non-residential premises. Before recently, broadband has been monopolised by British Telecomms wholesale service, which was repackaged under different brand names. For example you could buy broadband from AOL, but you would be recieving AOL's repackaged BT Wholesale service.
With the dawn of cheap broadband services (under £10) British Telecom have allowed broadband suppliers to move their equipment into a local telephone exchange for a fee of around £12,000. Obviously when considering this decision a broadband supplier must consider how much profit they could make. Chestfield's Exchange serves a small amount of homes and businesses and thus most broadband suppliers would just keep renting BT's Wholesale Service, rather than pay the fee for moving their own equipment in.
Fortunately, TalkTalk has moved their own equipment into the Chestfield and Swalecliffe Exchange, and TalkTalk is currently the cheapest Broadband and Phone service avaliable in the area.
